DESCRIPTION:Policymakers around the world face enormous pressure to regulate the deployment and use of Generative AI in a manner that both fosters safe innovation and protects against potentially serious harms to society.  Among the challenges is ensuring that global copyright protections remain viable, not only for the authors and publishers who depend on them for their livelihoods, but also for the public interest, which requires the democratic dissemination of independent creative expression and curated information to thrive.  This panel will discuss what governments are doing to address complex questions and competing, stakeholder interests in unchartered copyright waters.
